Gary Dunn, Hyrum, Utah

Gary Dunn, Hyrum, Utah

Education:
BA in Vocal Music Education with a Minor in Spanish from USU, 1975.
BA in Spanish from SUSU, 1986
Family:
I married a Sky View girl, Jana Clawson, on December 12, 1974. She currently teaches in the business department at Roy High School. We were blessed with 4 children two girls and two boys: Brittany (Heeth) Perkins, Nathan (Serena), Paul and Cassie.
Brittany is an accomplished singer and has a degree from USU. She and husband Heeth are expecting their first child in Dec. 2010. It's been a struggle for them, so we are hopeful all goes well.
Nathan and his wife Serena have two beautiful children, Lyndon Gary, and Naiya Arwen. Sadly, Nathan passed away September 13th, 2009.
Paul has a degree from Stevens Henegar, and is an accomplished musician as well. He plays guitar, sings, writes and records his own music, and is front man for his band Love Puppets. You can find some of his tunes on YouTube.
Cassie has a degree in cosmetology and works at the Arkana Salon in Logan. While in school she was tops in her class at Stacie's in Ogden and started competing. She went to the National competition in Chicago and was noticed by the men's cuts coach, and he offered to train her and a couple others from the school. They went to Uruguay and she and the members of her team took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in every category they entered. The next year in Chicago, Cassie won 1st place overall in her categories which qualified her to represent the United States at the World Competition in Moscow, Russia! She had a great time there.
Hobbies:
I have worked various odd jobs, but the ones of import are, Music teacher (Choir, Guitar, Band, General Music) for 29 years as of June 2010. Currently I am teaching Choir, Guitar and Gen Music at Mt. Logan Middle School in Logan, Utah. I have also worked in various areas of construction: carpentry, cement work, roofing, plastering and footings/foundations.
I enjoy hunting deer, pronghorn, elk, ducks, pheasant and grouse. I also love to fish for whatever is biting at the time. But I have fished for and caught rainbow, brown, cutthroat, albino (I caught what would have been the State Record for albino trout and would have held that record for some 10 years had I known the one I caught was exactly that, a State Record. It was only after the fact that I realized it, so I never had the fish officially weighed and measured. I just took it home for dinner. This was several years ago, and was about 20" and some 3 lbs. I found out later, that the record at that time was only about 1 1/12 pounds!) lake and brook trout, along with some of the crossbreeds. Also large mouth and small mouth bass, kokanee, walleye, wiper, channel cat, white bass, crappie, blue gill, yellow perch, white fish, carp, mud cats (yellow bellies/bullheads), I have also fished the ocean, and have caught various types of fish, most notable was a 10 barracuda which won me the pot on the boat that day! My son and I went after Marlin, and I let him have the 1st fish, and we only caught 1. But it was an 8'9" black marlin! I'm glad he had that experience before he passed away.

I have a rock band called 8 Track Mind, and we play rock from the late '50s to the present. So I still play guitar and sing. I recently bought myself a banjo and have been teaching myself to play so we can use it in our band in songs like Sweet City Woman and Take it Easy!

Our website is: www.8trackmindband.com

I spent two years in Peru on an LDS mission and was stationed in Cuzco for about 6 months and had the opportunity to visit Macchu Picchu three different times! I have been to Europe once and visited Munich, Salzburg, Vienna, and Prague. I have also traveled through much of Mexico and have seen the ruins of Teotihuacan and some of the more famous ports, like Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, etc. I have visited almost all of the lower 48 states, with few exceptions, like the North West!
Volunteer work:
"I have been a baseball, basketball, and football youth leagues coach as well as coach of the Hyrum Hornets Baseball team. I have served as a Republican precinct chair, county and state delegate. My wife and I are actively involved in the South Cache Spanish Branch of the LDS Church. I have organized a 4th of July parade, MCed and judged beauty contests and music competitions in Utah and Idaho. And have given some 15 years to the Logan Education Association, serving as President 4 times, and building representative a few, spokesperson and member of the negotiations team, Vice President and President of the Utah Education Association Council of Local Presidents.
Military Service:
I am not apologizing, but I never served. Too many football injuries, so they sent me home after about half way through the physical! I am grateful to all those who have and are currently serving, and I honor you!

Chuck Kimber, Tremonton, UT

Chuck Kimber, Tremonton, UT

Education, Career, Employment

After graduating from High school, I went to Utah State and Weber State for a while before I began my working career. Many years later I decided I needed to finish my education, and so I finished a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1990 and a Masters Degree in 1992.
I worked at several banks in Northern Utah for 19 years managing 3 different branch offices until 1990 when I was laid off after the bank I was working for was sold. So I went to work as an independent real estate appraiser, which I have been doing ever since. I took lots of classes and upgraded my licensing until I am now a Certified General Appraiser, doing not only residential, but Farm and Ranch as well as commercial property appraisals in Utah and Idaho. The business has treated me well over the years, but lately, it has all but stopped. Ah, the times they are a changing.
Kimber Appraisal Services, Inc

Hobbies, Interests, Travel
I love to fly, ride 4 wheelers, hunt, fish, and build things, like cabins, and do remodeling jobs around the home and the ranch.

Volunteer Service in Your Community, Church
I actually do a lot of volunteer work. I've been president of a Lions Club, and a Kiwanis club. I was secretary of the Junior Livestock auction in Box Elder County for many years.
A scout master for 20 plus years. But my real love is the time I have spent in the past 25 years, as a volunteer fireman and EMT for Tremonton City Fire Dept. I'm a Certified EMT-I and ambulance coordinator for the agency. I love driving and using the big fire engines and ladder truck, and the big and expensive ambulances.
I love emergency medicine in general, and wonder sometimes, if I didn't miss my calling by not being an ER physician.

Family – Spouse, Children, Grand Children- Their Special Accomplishments
My wife, Cathy Woodruff, whom many of you may remember, are the parents of 7 children. Yeah, that's a lot. 6 sons and one daughter, the baby.
The oldest son Chuck is married, has three kids, and is the Data base manager at Utah State University.
#2 son, Jared just finished his stint in the U.S. Army, where he did three tours of combat duty in Iraq as a Blackhawk Medevac pilot. He is married and has two daughters. He just started a new job working for U.S. Customs flying helicopters and fixed wing aircraft flying drug interdictions along the Mexican border.
#3 son, Kelly works for the Utah National Guard full time and is an Army pilot also. He flies an Apache UH64D attack helicopter. He's 30, single, and never been married, and I desperately need to get him married off to someone.
#4 son, Kaleb, is married with two daughters. He works as a customer service rep. for Thermo Fisher Scientific. Like his dad, he is an EMT for Cache County ambulance service.
#5 son, Robin is married but has no children as of yet. He is just finishing up a Nursing Degree and he also volunteers for Hyrum City Fire and Cache County ambulance. His wife Amber is a kindergarten teacher at Willard Elementary School.
#6 son, Bridger is engaged to be married in December. He is in the US Army, currently in flight school. He is training to fly either a Chinook or a Blackhawk helicopter.
#7 Kimberly, my only daughter, just got married to Colt Schofield in Hawaii. Kauai was magnificent. She has one year left to finish a bachelor degree in sociology. She's been all over the world, and loves to travel. We live in East Tremonton, but have a family ranch in Grouse Creek, Utah, where the kids and I love to go and play and work and just enjoy being together. The cell phones don't work there, and we don't have any phones in our houses out there, so life is just a little slower, which makes life a little better.

Military Service
I did everything I could to stay out of the Vietnam War when we graduated from high school, and I was successful. I however, greatly admire those who have served and continue to serve our country in the military.

Lois Craghead Reese, Ogden, UT

Lois Craghead Reese, Ogden, UT

I’m on Facebook a lot, I use to like Myspace, but I changed to Facebook. It's very addicting, just ask Barbara. I live in Ogden, UT. We have lived here since 1985, when we came back from Cheyenne Wyoming which we all hated, but my oldest son loves it there, for some dumb reason.

Education, career, employment

I made it through the 12 grade that is as far as I wanted to go. I had a very hard time in school, but I survived it, so I went on to work at B.E.E. a sewing factory, then went to Brigham Apparel, to Phoenix Co. which were all sewing factories, I sewed leather coats, and then at Phoenix Co, I sewed Pyketts clothing, what ugly clothes we had to sew, but I did it. Then I moved on to working Pioneer Nursing Home in the kitchen, I liked that a lot, the patience where really neat to get to know. I also worked in a hospital in Cheyenne Wyo. It was very short lived there. When we came back, I went to work for Shepherd's Bush, another sewing factory making baby clothes that was very fun. I made a lot of money with my quota. I retired from that and went on disability, but I went back to work at Target as a Merchandiser. I put jewelry out for 4 years, and then I decided I was tired, so no more working. I’m just taking care of my granddaughter part time, that feels like a full time job.

Hobbies, interests, travel

I love to cross-stitch, crochet, quilt, scrapbook, and most of all I love to spend time with my family and grandkids. They are the best part of my life. Dave and I have traveled to Oklahoma to see our grandkids, Wyoming to see the other ones. Now they all scattered between Florida, Missouri, Oklahoma, Phoenix, and Utah. So we do get to see the ones outside of Utah, very often.

Volunteer service in your community, church or other areas

Dave and I worked for the Special Needs Mutual for 13 years, we both loved it, and those kids are so special to work with. Those special children of God know so much, they are so bright, in so many ways that not many people understand. I’ve also worked in the Primary, and been a Sunday School President, and also worked in the nursery.

Family – spouse, children, grandchildren- their special accomplishments

Together Dave and I have 5 kids. Yours mine and ours: Mike, Marcie, Dell, Alesha, and Travis. Mike has given us 3 children and 2 great-grandkids, Dell has given us 3 grandkids, Marcie has given us 1, Alesha has given us 3 dogs and 1 cat (but she and her husband are trying to have some 'human' grandkids), and Travis has 3, 2 step children, and one of his own. Travis is going to be a police officer or a CSI officer, Dell is in construction, Mike was a Truck Driver, Marcie a Vegetarian, Alesha a very sick woman and is unable to work, and hasn't for quite some time.

Military service

Neither of us is in the military.

Carol Porter Floyd, Glendale, AZ

Carol Porter Floyd, Glendale, AZ

Hi Everyone,

I have to admit, I would not have recognized any of you if I had met you on the street! Hee hee! No in all honesty I think we all look great. I have been married three times; however, I have outlived at least one so far. My first husband lives in Cheyenne, WY. He is the father of my two children, Deanna Douglas and Brent Wegner. My second husband is fighting with my sister’s ex where the devil resides.

They say the third time is the charm. Gary is the mellowest and most considerate man I have ever met. He is a musician. He plays guitar and sings. He has a band called Lonesome Highway 102. We also have a karaoke business, C&G Entertainment.

My daughter Deanna has four children and my son Brent has three. I have enclosed pictures of all being the proud grandma. I had worked for the Government until my son Brent was born. Then I worked as a nursing assistant. We lost my mom in 1988. Shortly after that I changed my trade to Court Clerk. I was a bartender three nights a week, worked every day in the courts, and went to school ¾ time and raised my two teenage kids. I worked up to supervisor of the court and decided there had to be a better way to earn a living. I went to work as a customer service rep for A&T. I then went to work as a credit consultant for Qwest.

I married my current husband and went to truck driving school and we drove team for five years. High blood pressure, CAD, and CHF brought me off the road, so I went to work in the office at Roadway Express and joined the teamster union. (I also held cards for CWA- Communication Workers of America, when I worked for AT&T and Qwest). I didn’t have insurance so I then went to work for Bank of America as a Senior Customer Service Rep.

With the economy as it is I am now back in school, and almost back where I started, getting my certification for Medical Assistant and then RN. How many of you can put your whole lives in 1 ¼ pages?? Hope to see all of you at our 45th reunion.

Never drive faster than your Guardian Angel can fly "Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly."

Love to all,
Carol Porter Floyd

Nov 7, 2010 Update:
Ford fought a courageous battle with cancer for over 11 years and passed away on Oct 25, 2010.

Posted: Aug 20, 2009
I recently contacted Ford & Dianne and they sent some photos they had and said it was OK to publish their bio info. The photos are not current, Ford is thinner and they have a few more grandkids. I put their contact info in a photo so you can write or call them without the info being accessible by spybots.

Hi Bob,
We appreciated your email and kind thoughts for Ford. He is amazing with all he has been through and he still keeps giving it his all, trying to overcome the obstacles in his path, which at this point are many. He has an awesome attitude and is grateful every day for his time here. He has been battling colon cancer for 10 years but this past year & a half has been brutal on him. His last cancer surgery was in April of
2008 & he has never fully recovered from that plus the cancer has now moved to his lungs & many other problems have occurred along the way. It has taken a toll on him physically causing limitations on him which he hasn't had to deal with as much before now. However, he still works every day, continues to do things around the house that need to be done, & loves to cook w/ or w/out me in the kitchen. Those that know him & what he has been through & is still dealing with, are constantly amazed at what he is able to do. He is our miracle! He was told he had 12-18 months to live after his first cancer surgery in Nov. of 1999, but he is still w/us and living life to the fullest. We have been more places & seen more things in the last 10 years than we would have done otherwise, so his cancer has been a source of motivation for him to do & see more & make those special memories with me and our Family.
For that we are and will be eternally grateful! If anyone has any questions or just want to "chat" with us, feel free to contact us via our email or home phone. Whatever is most convenient for them. Thank you for thinking of us.

Kirsten Jensen Kobler, Park City, UT

Family Photos

Kirsten Jensen Kobler, Park City, UT

Hey all you Box Elder people!

This is fun hearing about everyone. Here is my story. I graduated from the University of Utah in 1973 with a BS Degree in Nursing. I got married September 1, 1973. I worked in the nursing field for 2 years and then stopped to raise a family. I have 3 children- Amanda, Bryan, and Emilie - no one is married or has any children, but I do
have a cat.

We have lived in Salt Lake City, Myrtle Beach, SC and then settled in Park City, Utah. We have been there for 28 ½ years. Our children grew up on the ski hill and I spent many freezing weekends watching ski races and almost throwing up whenever my kids were on the race course. (That's a nervous mom thing).

I never did return to nursing. I did start working as a teacher's aide at the middle school in Park City almost 20 years ago to be on the same schedule as my kids. After years of being a volunteer mom, I finally got paid. Today I work at the Park City High School in the Counseling Center Computer Lab and Career Center. It's still a great schedule -- summers off, 2 weeks at Christmas, etc. I also work part time at the county library. (I saw that Ralph Kolts lives in Park City and works at the city library. I must look him up.)

I have been married almost 36 years to my husband Ron. He is an engineer with his own business in Salt Lake. My oldest daughter Amanda is 33 and lives in Oakland, CA. She got her master's degree in city planning from UC Berkeley. She works in affordable housing as a consultant and a developer. My son Bryan is 30 years old and attended the University of Utah. He is a brilliant computer administrator and is currently living in Denver, CO. My younger daughter Emilie is 27 and graduated from UC Santa Cruz in Community Studies. She is currently working for a drug rehab facility in Salt Lake City. She spent 6 months working on a cruise ship cruising the Hawaiian Islands. Poor baby.

I enjoy spending my time hiking, mountain biking, skiing and snowshoeing. I have run/walked several half marathons-the latest being the San Francisco half marathon on July 26 where we got to run across the Golden Gate Bridge. Of course, it was foggy and we couldn't see much of the bridge. Bummer.

I love working in the yard, tiling and painting things like bathrooms, kitchens, etc. I can always find something to redo. So, things are good. Hope to see you all at the Reunion.

Kirsten
